This full day course is aimed at teachers, youth sector workers and people working in schools and outdoor centres.CATO1

The training delivers the knowledge, understanding and practical ability to teach the basic skills of orienteering.

Orienteering supports the Curriculum for Excellence in a wide and a varied way, the main areas are identified in thisEs_and_Os – Orienteering document.

If the Teaching Orienteering Part 1 course is not suitable the Outdoor Learning team can come to you school and run a training course focusing on the following ares:

  • Providing Orienteering material that can be used to support lesson plans
  • Equiping teachers/learning assistants at all school stages with the skills to deliver some simple Orienteering activities with the resources already available in the school
  • Working with upper and lower school staff – rotating around 3 different progressive activities, e.g. one in the gym – map orientation, one around the school – photo orienteering, one in the park – simple orienteering event
